Creating lasting change doesn't happen without your support
Sponsor the 2018 Cal Poly - Tanzania Summer Build
Later this summer, a team of eleven students and two faculty from California Polytechnic State University will join us in Tanzania to assist with the construction of the first site office for the Same Polytechnic College. They are flying half-way around the world to volunteer their time, skills and sweat for this building that will be used by our staff and future volunteers as the full construction of the campus begins to ramp up over the coming year. This incredible team is self-funding their travel and accommodations and now we need your help to raise the $5,000 needed for construction!
Sponsor a part of the Same Polytechnic College Campus
Construction of the first phase is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2018. For more information on the construction plan for the campus, click here.
Give the gift of water - $75,000
In the semi-arid lands of East Africa, access to clean, safe drinking water is critical. With no civil infrastructure to deliver water to our campus, we need to develop a groundwater source. We are working with MajiTech and the Pangani Basin Water Board to locate, design and install the first of two boreholes on site. Your sponsorship of $75,000 covers the cost of drilling and the purchase and installation of a solar powered pump and storage tank.
Sponsor a classroom building - $45,000
In the first phase of construction, we will build a total of four classroom buildings. Your sponsorship of $45,000 will cover the costs to build and furnish one of these, complete with furniture, solar power and rainwater collection.
Sponsor a dormitory building - $35,000
Also in the first phase of construction, we will build a total of four student dormitory buildings. Your sponsorship of $35,000 will cover the costs to build and furnish one of these, complete with furniture, solar power and rainwater collection.
Sponsor a brick press - $12,000
Masonry is the most common building material in East Africa and it will be used widely in the construction of the campus. To reduce construction costs, employ local community members and reduce our carbon footprint, we will manufacturer bricks on site rather than purchasing them from suppliers hundreds of miles away. Your sponsorship of $12,000 will purchase the equipment necessary to make this possible.
Sponsor a wood chipper - $20,000
Yes, a wood chipper. Deforestation and soil degradation are serious issues in rural East Africa. In order to build the campus, we will need to clear some of the existing acacia trees and brush from the campus site. With a chipper, we can return the nutrients from the cleared foliage back into the soil as mulch and compost to support the native landscaping we have planned for the campus.
Sponsor landscaping & Irrigation - $15,000
The campus is going to be more than just a collection of buildings. We aim to preserve, protect and enhance the existing savanna landscape while creating outdoor learning spaces that ameliorate the climate with shade, shadow, and texture.
Sponsor site fencing - $15,000
The need for security is a reality we cannot ignore. We will employ several measures to ensure a safe environment for our students, staff and volunteers. The most visible of these will be a perimeter fence.
general sponsorship - $10,000
